Last night we ventured out East side to Rumors East. If you’ve never been before, the back patio is the best in Nashville and a great way to spend a few hours with great friends, spectacular food and fabulous wine. Unfortunately it was all booked but we did get to sit on the front porch which made us feel like we were hip and living in East Nashville watching out neighbors walk by with their dogs. Rumors changes their menu depending on what they get fresh that day and what is fresh in their garden. That’s right, they have a garden by the back patio where most of their greens come straight from. While they do not have a dedicated gluten free menu, the staff is up-to-date on issues and are very helpful.
We started with a pitcher of sangria and some goat cheese grilled in grape leaves along with some melon wrapped in salami. Both were spectacular although I was partial to the grape leaves stuffed with goat cheese. Anytime there is goat cheese involved it will win. The grape leaves did come with bread, but we were able to get it without so it would be gluten free. For dinner my wife had the scallops pan seared over grits. It was a let down that they put crispy onlions over the top (which was not mentioned on the menu) so I only got to try a spoonful of the grits that they hadn’t touched. What I did get to taste was awesome! I had the pork tenderloin with potato wedges and blue cheese sauce. The tenderloin made me jealous of the chef, mine never tastes as good as this one did.
I highly recommend Rumors East for a unforgettable date night or to spend special time with some of your best friends.
