So, for the first time last night I had Ethiopian food. We ate at Gojo at 415 W. Thompson Lane in Nashville. I have to say it was great. The staff was great and very helpful with my gluten issue. Their injera bread is made with teff (which is gluten free) but they do mix it so stay away. The meats are great though and they were able to suggest things that I could have and made sure mine was separated from the other folks I was eating with. I highly recommend them!
Yellow Watermelon
I thought it was a bad watermelon at first and then promptly Googled it. A yellow watermelon is a real thing. It was really good, a little less sweet and a bit of a honey aftertaste. It does freak the brain out though! It looks like you are eating pineapple but tastes like watermelon.
Woodchuck Cider – the test
OK, so I just tried 2 different versions of the Woodchuck Cider, the Amber and the 802. Both were nice but a bit sweet for my every day taste. I do think I just found an easy take along for BBQ’s though! Which I am very happy about since New Grist is hard to find sometimes in this area. Oh… and yes, Whole Foods had New Grist again this week. First time in a month. It was $9.99 though. And to think Whole Foods is trying to get away from it’s Whole Paycheck nickname
Woodchuck Cider
So, was just walking around Frugal’s looking for New Grist again and noticed that Woodchuck Cider is gluten free. Anyone tried this? I just got 2 six packs, will give you my opinion later.
Great Dinner at Rumors East
Met some friends last night at Rumors East. Our waitress and kitchen staff was very helpful in letting me know what I can and can’t have. I was surprised to see that most of what was on their menu was safe and they have a great wine list. I highly recommend checking them out!
Gluten Free Beer
Where has it gone? New Grist was my favorite and you could find it at Whole Foods and Frugal McDoogal’s, now you can’t find it anywhere. I saw it a month ago at Whole Foods and they raised the price to almost $10/ 6 pack. They have RedBridge now, which is OK I guess but definitely not worth $8. Anybody know where New Grist gluten free beer has gone in Middle Tennessee?
Gluten free at the Breeze Greek restaurant
I’ve been there a couple of times now and have to say that the folks at the Breeze Greek restaurant on Demonbreun have always been great in helping me out with gluten free options. I had the stuffed grape leaves and a chicken dinner that was great nd fast.
Gluten free pizza in the Nashville area
I read online that Matteo’s Pizzeria in Brentwood offers a gluten free pizza! I haven’t tried it yet but looking forward to it. Had a pizza this weekend in Cincinnati at Donatos, was kind of a let down. Lou Malnati’s in Chicago is the best that I have had so far, just a shame they didn’t offer the gluten free beer!
Gluten Free Nashville
Welcome to the new gluten free Nashville blog. I found that I was not updating GlutenFreeGeek.com enough so let’s try another route. I will try to post as much information here as possible, but please share with the world if you know of other gluten free resources. Thanks!
Michael
