A couple of friends have emailed me in the past week about Lazzaroli Pasta in Germantown. They have a Spelt Pasta that is made without semolina and subsitutes Light Spelt Flour. Check them out at 1314 5th Avenue North * Historic Germantown * Nashville and let me know what you think!

We ate at Lime in Nashville on 21st. Unlike most place you go where only 25% of the menu is gluten free, at Lime about 75% of the menu is. Everything is very fresh and the wait and kitchen staff are very knowledgeable about celiac. The menu is a little pricy, but the taste was great!

According to the Honey Baked Hams website, their hams are now gluten free! They apparently reformulated their glaze to remove all glutens. Check them out:

Knob Creek

Being from Kentucky, I have always been a huge bourbon fan. When I was diagnosed with Celiacs 2 years ago I thought this may hinder my enjoyment of bourbon. When I read up on it, it looked as if bourbon was OK for celiacs since the distilling process removed most everything that is bad for us. Recently I got to wondering if it was still true. Thanks to the folks at Knob Creek for responding with the email below.

Michael,

Thanks for asking about a potential allergic reaction to gluten in our bourbon products.

Our bourbon is made from the fermentation of corn, rye and malted barley. The fermented “beer,” as it’s called in the trade, is then distilled and aged in oak barrels. While gluten can be found in the small grains, such as rye, barley, oats, etc., the process of distillation generally excludes gluten in the finished product.

People with celiac disease may have a permanent intolerance to gluten. Beam Global Spirits and Wine does not advise legal age adults about whether or not to drink our products; this is a decision you may want to discuss with your physician if you have any questions. Your physician may be able to provide personalized advice about your question, based on the ingredients and processes that go into making our bourbon.

I love meetings

Actually that was sarcasm. Meetings take up way too much of my time, but for the next 3 days I am stuck in one. you know, the ones where they bring lunch in and there is not a gluten free option in site. I have my backpack stuffed with Larabar cashew bars and fruit sticks. The fun part about it is everybody who plans these meetings knows I have to have a gluten free option but when it comes to ordering lunch, they never remember.

OK, so I just tried 2 different versions of the Woodchuck Cider, the Amber and the 802. Both were nice but a bit sweet for my every day taste. I do think I just found an easy take along for BBQ’s though! Which I am very happy about since New Grist is hard to find sometimes in this area. Oh… and yes, Whole Foods had New Grist again this week. First time in a month. It was $9.99 though. And to think Whole Foods is trying to get away from it’s Whole Paycheck nickname ;-)

So, was just walking around Frugal’s looking for New Grist again and noticed that Woodchuck Cider is gluten free. Anyone tried this? I just got 2 six packs, will give you my opinion later.

Met some friends last night at Rumors East. Our waitress and kitchen staff was very helpful in letting me know what I can and can’t have. I was surprised to see that most of what was on their menu was safe and they have a great wine list. I highly recommend checking them out!

I’ve been there a couple of times now and have to say that the folks at the Breeze Greek restaurant on Demonbreun have always been great in helping me out with gluten free options. I had the stuffed grape leaves and a chicken dinner that was great nd fast.
